It's that time of year again — backpacks are being dusted off, lunchboxes are getting a scrub, and somewhere out there a first-day-of-school outfit is already laid out on a bed (three weeks early, no judgment). Here at The Woodland Hare, we thought about what back-to-school season actually feels like, and honestly? It comes down to one thing: hugs.
The long ones at drop-off. The quick ones before the bus pulls away. The "okay but one more" ones. So this month, our two T-Shirt Clubs are hugging it out — literally.
For the Moms: "HUG Your Mother"
Let's be real — back to school isn't just hard on the kids. Somewhere between packing lunches, hunting down the one missing shoe, and pretending you're totally fine watching your baby walk into a classroom without you, moms need a hug just as much as anyone. Probably more.
Our Woodland! T-Shirt Club tee says it plainly: HUG your Mother. Consider it a gentle public service announcement to every kid, partner, coworker, and barista within arm's reach. Moms give approximately one million hugs a day during back-to-school season — it's only fair some come back around.
Wear it to drop-off. Wear it to the first PTA meeting. Wear it while crying a totally normal, completely dignified amount in the car after kindergarten drop-off. We won't tell.
For the Little Ones: "HUG Me"
New backpack? Check. New shoes that light up? Check. A direct, no-nonsense request for physical affection printed right across the chest? Also check.
Our Toddler T-Shirt Club tee keeps it simple with HUG me — because toddlers don't do subtext. New classrooms, new faces, new routines can be a lot for little hearts to process, and sometimes the easiest way to ask for comfort is to just say it. Loudly. In bold letters. On a shirt.
It's a built-in icebreaker for new friends, a sweet reminder for new teachers, and honestly? A pretty good life philosophy for the rest of us too.
The Real Lesson This August
Back to school is a season of big feelings — excited ones, nervous ones, proud ones, and yes, a few tearful ones (we see you, moms). Our August tees are a small reminder that no matter how big the backpack or how long the school day, everybody could use a little more hugging.
